Our top Rental home tips and tricks:

How to get the best rental value:

  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal NC. To find the most suitable rental home within your budget, we strongly suggest booking in Fall or Spring. You'll enjoy lower rates, greater selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of large crowds at the beach and popular attractions.
  • In the Havelock area, The sooner your group can reserve a home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable vacation homes are reserved very early. Reserving your vacation home up to 12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and book your rental property.
  • Hosts sometimes offer promotional rates for veterans. Ask your property manager if rate reductions are available for your family.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer renters an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost you 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed days as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for additional information.
  • Often, management companies supply Havelock area visitor guides which include money-saving deals, either offered directly by local companies, or through a relationship with the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Havelock visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

Use filters to narrow your search:

  • Start by having your group select the best dates and a maximum budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration you need. Ocean Views and Pool, King Bed, Beach Access at end of Driveway! has 4 bedrooms and 6 bathrooms.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is usually available on booking websites. If not, contact the property owner before you book the vacation property. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds.
  • Are you visiting for a single event or attraction? If so, use a map search to find nearby rentals.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
  • If your family is traveling with pets, search for a property that allows animals. Ask for information on breed, weight, and type requirements. Note that some property owners require additional pet deposits and fees.

Considerations for your stay:

  • Put the host's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Record any damages to the property upon arrival, and immediately e-mail them to the host. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be very helpful if a dispute is filed.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, television set or thermostat. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief call prevents many problems.
  • Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Frequently, surrounding homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by locking and securing the home while you are away, just like you would back home.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, take a walk through the rental property to reconfirm you've collected everything. Check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Did you have a terrific stay? Many rental websites make it easy for travelers to provide comments. If your rental property and/or host was terrific, they would love to hear about it. If anything was defective and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
