Strategies to get the optimal Havelock vacation rental experience:

Getting the best rental home value:

  • Summertime is the most expensive season in Atlantic Beach. To get the most suitable vacation home within your budget, we highly recommend booking in Fall or Spring. You'll enjoy lower rates, greater selection, warm weather and the absence of giant crowds at local restaurants, tours, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer.
  • The sooner your group can book, the easier your search will be. The most desirable rental properties are reserved early. Reserving your vacation home 6-12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and book your rental.
  • Property managers sometimes offer promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. Ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your family before you book.
  • Property managers frequently offer their guests an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which usually costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for more information.
  • Often, property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Havelock area visitors guides that include coupons, either offered directly by local businesses, or by way of a relationship with the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Havelock area magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

Use filters to search efficiently:

  • Start by having your family select trip dates and a max budget.
  • Determine how many beds and the bed configuration your family needs. 2nd-Floor Condo in Oceanfront Location w/Shared Pool, Balcony, Free WiFi has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Specific details about bedrooms and bed types is commonly available on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, email the property manager before you book the home. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds in living rooms.
  • Are you looking for specific amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters for amenities. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Make certain to ask about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
  • Some rental properties allow pets, and others do not. Allowable types of dog or cat, size and breeds may be restricted, and added charges may apply. Ask the owner about your furry family members before booking.

Additional considerations:

  • Put the host's information in your smartphone.
  • Upon arrival, record any damages to the rental property and immediately alert the host. Record all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, A/V setup or washer/dryer. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents lots of problems.
  • Respect your neighbors. Often, adjacent homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by locking and securing the home while you are away, just like you would back home.
  • Double-check the property to confirm that you've packed all of your family's items on check-out day. Check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Inspect the rental one final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager isn't available, remember to take photos of the property to record its condition.
  • Did you have a excellent time? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for guests to provide comments. If your rental property and/or property management company was great, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was out of order and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
