Our top Vacation rental tips:
When to book & When to go:
- Summer months are the most expensive season along the coast of NC. To find the best value, consider shifting your trip dates to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and even October offer warm weather, fewer crowds, and greatly reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Havelock vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
- Book your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules generally become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families book their Summer vacations during Christmas and Thanksgiving gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host if your family qualifies for a special rate.
- Management companies and individual rental owners often offer guests an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed days as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for more information.
- Find a copy of your local Havelock area magazine upon checking in. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitors guide magazines have coupons for nearby restaurants, attractions, and tours.
Choosing and booking yourrental:
- Select a group lead, choose your trip dates, and select a spending budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the bed configuration you need. Beachfront, sleeps up to 6. Indoor & outdoor pool & slide, large deck, putt putt has 1 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our vacation rental search.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is regularly available on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, reach out to the property owner before booking your home. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds in living rooms.
- Are you visiting for a specific attraction? Use a map search to locate nearby properties.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before booking.
- If your group is bringing pets, you must book a pet-friendly rental. Get information on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Some property managers charge additional pet fees.
More tips for your stay:
- Review check in & check out procedures before leaving home. Add a note with the instructions to your smartphone, and take a printed copy.
- To make certain that no damages are linked to your family's visit, note any problem areas upon check in. Make contact with the property manager immediately to relay any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having the recorded concerns and contact attempts will be valuable.
- Hosts are great sources of help! Feel free to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will increase your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are usually a terrific source for finding the best local beaches and hangouts.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can typically help. Who better to ask where to rent beach equipment, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
- Lock your vacation home while you're away. Protect your property!
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, walk through the property to confirm you've collected all personal items. Check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the property one final time and scan for any damage. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the host is not available, remember to take video of the property to record its condition.
- Did you have a terrific stay? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for customers to provide comments. If your property and/or host was wonderful, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was out of order and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
