Tips and Tricks to get the perfect rental experience:
Finding your perfect rental home:
- Book your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules usually become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups book their Summer rental homes during Thanksgiving and Christmas get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- To get the best vacation home for your budget, we suggest reserving in the Spring or Fall. You'll enjoy lower rates, better selection, beautiful weather and the absence of giant crowds at the beach and popular Havelock attractions. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Havelock vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
- Property management companies sometimes offer rate reductions for active duty military and veterans. Ask your property manager if special discounts are available for your family.
- Property management companies typically offer renters an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which generally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for details.
- Often, management companies supply Havelock area visitor guides that include special deals, either offered independently by local businesses, or by way of a partnership between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Havelock area magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
How to select the perfect rental home in the Havelock area:
- Begin by choosing your trip dates and a max budget.
- Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. Shell Cottage DOG Friendly in Historic District has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is often available online. If not, reach out to the host before reserving the home. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds and bunks.
- Some rentals allow pets, and others do not. Acceptable types of pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional fees may apply. Ask the property management company about allowable pet guidelines before booking.
- Visiting for a specific event? If so, use a map search to locate nearby rentals.
- Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. .
Additional considerations:
- Get the property manager's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your .
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, television set or kitchen appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent quite a few concerns.
- Ensure you protect the owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home while you are away, just like you would at home.
- Note any damages to the rental at check in, and immediately e-mail them to the property manager. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that can be very helpful if damages are attributed to your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud vacationers bothering your peaceful neighborhood. Use the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and scenic spots you would have not otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, take a walk through the rental property to reconfirm you've collected all of your things. Re-check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Walk through the property a final time and look for damage. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the property manager isn't available, take video of the property to record its condition.
- Did your family have a wonderful time? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for vacationers to provide reviews. If your property and/or property manager was terrific, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was out of order and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
