Tips to get the very best Havelock rental home experience:
When to visit & When to reserve a rental home:
- The earlier your group can reserve a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable properties are booked early. Reserving your rental up to 12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and reserve your vacation home.
- Reserve your vacation in Spring or Fall to enjoy warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Havelock vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
- Hosts sometimes offer special rates for veterans and active duty military. Ask your property manager if discounts are available for your family.
- Property management companies typically offer guests an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which generally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed days as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
- Find a copy of your local Havelock visitors guide magazine upon arrival. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitors guides contain deals for nearby accommodations, restaurants and tours.
Make a plan and pick yourrental home:
- Choose vacation week and max budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the configuration your group requires. Hunt For The Best, Oceanfront House in Pine Knoll Shores, NC! has 4 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is regularly accessible online. Otherwise, email the property manager before you book the property. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds and bunks. You'll need to determine what is optimal for your trip.
- If your group is vacationing with pets, you must reserve a pet-friendly rental. Get details on breed, weight, and type requirements. Note that some hosts charge pet deposits and fees.
- Visiting for a specific attraction? Try a map search to locate nearby properties.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before reserving a rental
During your stay:
- Get the owner's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental home. We recommend storing the manager's contact information in your smartphone.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, intercom or WIFI setup. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents quite a few concerns.
- Lock your vacation home while you are out and about. Protect the owner's property and your things!
- At Check-in, note any damages to the property and immediately alert the owner. Keep records of all coorespondence.
- Be a good neighbor. Often, adjacent homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking regulations reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can usually help. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Just prior to departing, complete a walk-through to confirm you didn't forget any personal items. Make sure to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the property one final time and keep an eye out for damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager is not available, ensure that you take photographs of the property to record its condition.
- Did you have a wonderful time? Many rental home management companies make it easy for guests to provide comments. If your property and/or host was wonderful, they would love to hear it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
