Our top Vacation rental home tips and tricks:

Money saving strategies:

  • Booking your vacation home in the Fall or Spring is a good way to save money on your vacation. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of suitable properties. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the high season.
  • The earlier you can reserve a home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable vacation rentals are booked early. Reserving your vacation property six - twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and reserve your vacation rental.
  • Owners sometimes offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your group before you book.
  • Property managers often offer renters an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for details.
  • Many management companies supply Havelock area visitors guides which often include coupons, either offered independently by local businesses, or through a relationship between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Havelock area magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

Planning, selecting, and booking your Havelock rental home:

  • Choose your vacation week and maximum budget.
  • Determine how many beds and the configuration your family requires. It's an easy 10 minute stroll to downtown has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
  • Precise details about bedrooms and bed counts & types is generally available on booking websites. If they are not listed, call the property management company before you book the vacation property. Remember that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You will need to work out which bed configuration is suitable for your group.
  • Looking for unique amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters for amenities. Use these to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all required amenities are included before reserving a rental.
  • Some properties allow pets, but others don't. Acceptable types of family pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional fees may apply. Ask your host about allowable pet guidelines before booking.

Advice for a great stay:

  • We recommend storing the owner's contact information in your smartphone.
  • During arrival, note any issues with the rental property and immediately contact the property manager. Record all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, stereo or kitchen appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents quite a few concerns.
  • Be respectful. Frequently, adjacent homes are filled by local residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking regulations reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to rent beach equipment, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Lock your rental home while you're out. Keep your property safe!
  • When it's time to leave, complete a walk-through to confirm you didn't leave anything behind. Remember to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Go through the rental one final time and scan for any damage. We advise inspecting the property with the property manager whenever possible. If the property manager isn't available, remember to take video of the rental to record its condition.
  • Remember to leave a review! Property owners rely on great reviews to stimulate new reservations. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other families will appreciate that you share your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to solve it.
