Tips to get the optimal rental experience:
When to go & When to book:
- The sooner your group can reserve a home, the easier your search will be. The best rental properties are reserved early. Booking your vacation rental 6-12 months before your vacation is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to plan and book your rental home.
- To get the largest rental for your budget, we recommend booking in the Spring or Fall. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, better selection, beautiful weather and the absence of large crowds at Havelock restaurants, tours, and activities. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Havelock vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
- Hosts sometimes offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans. Ask your property manager if discounts are available for your family before you book.
- Booking websites usually offer their guests an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed vacation time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for details.
- Look for your local Havelock visitors guide magazine upon checking in. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitor guides contain discounts for local restaurants, attractions, and tours.
Filter your rental search:
- Select a designated group leader, select your dates, and choose a maximum budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the configuration your group requires. Oceanview, poolside, 2BR/2B condo sleeps 6 has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Havelock vacation rental search.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed counts is almost always available on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, contact the property management company before you book the vacation home. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds. You'll need to work out what configuration is right for your trip.
- Some rentals allow pets, but some do not. Acceptable types of family pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional fees may apply. Ask the property management company about pet restrictions before booking.
- Visiting for a specific attraction or event? Use a map search to locate nearby properties.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before reserving a rental.
Considerations for your stay:
- Be sure you get the owner's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, stereo or thermostat. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents quite a few issues.
- Lock your rental property while you're out! Don't let crooks ruin your vacation.
- Note any damages to the rental during check in, and immediately e-mail them to the host. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that are valuable if there is a dispute.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You will increase your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are usually an incredible source for finding the best local restaurants, beaches, and hangouts.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Re-check the vacation property to confirm that you've packed everything on check-out day. Check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did your family have a wonderful time? Many rental management companies make it easy for vacationers to provide feedback. If your rental and/or host was fantastic, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was wrong and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
