Strategies to get the best vacation rental experience:
When to visit & When to reserve a Havelock rental home:
- Summer months are the most expensive season in the Havelock area. To get the best value, try shifting your vacation week to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and even October offer excellent temperatures, fewer crowds, and greatly reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Havelock vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
- In the Havelock area, The sooner you can reserve a home, the easier your search will be. The best rental properties are reserved early. Booking your rental six to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and reserve your vacation rental.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host if your group qualifies for a reduced rate.
- Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer renters an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which usually will cost between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for additional information.
- Many management companies and vacation rental houses supply Havelock area travel guides which include special deals, either offered directly by local companies, or through a relationship between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Havelock visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
How to choose the best rental home in the Havelock area:
- Start by having your group choose vacation dates and a maximum budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the configuration you need. Decks Ahoy, Oceanfront House in Emerald Isle, NC! has 9 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Havelock rental home search.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is almost always available on booking pages. If not, email or call the host before you reserve the home. Remember that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds. You'll need to establish what configuration is suitable for your vacation group.
- Is your family looking for particular amenities? Most rental websites include search filters with amenity lists. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
- Some rental properties allow pets, and some don't. Acceptable types of family pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask the host about allowable breeds and types before booking.
Additional considerations:
- Get the host's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your rental home.
- To ensure that damages aren't attributed to your visit, inspect the property for any problem areas when you arrive. Contact the host immediately to record any issues. If there is a dispute, having a record of concerns and contact attempts will be helpful.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, elevator or kitchen appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent many difficulties.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You will increase your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are an excellent source for finding the best local scenic spots.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Keep your rental home locked while you are out! Don't let thieves spoil your holiday.
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, take a walk through the rental to reconfirm you've collected all belongings. Remember to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Walk through the rental one final time and scan for damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the host whenever you can. If the property manager isn't available, ensure that you take pictures of the rental to record its condition.
- Did you have a wonderful vacation? Most rental home management companies make it easy for travelers to provide feedback. If your rental and/or property manager was great, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was imperfect and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
