Tips and Tricks to get the perfect vacation home experience:

Money saving strategies:

  • The earlier your group can book a rental home, the better your selection will be. The best vacation homes are booked very early. Booking your vacation home up to 12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and book your vacation rental.
  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months along the coast of NC. Book your rental in Fall or Spring months to enjoy warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Havelock vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host if your family qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer renters an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for details.
  • Find a copy of your local Havelock area magazine when you check-in. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitor guides contain coupons for nearby restaurants, attractions, and tours.

Planning, selecting, and booking a perfectvacation home:

  • First, have your family choose vacation dates and a max budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and the configuration your group requires. Reel Paradise, Mainland Townhouse in Beaufort, NC! has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rentals search.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is generally available on booking websites. If not, reach out to the property owner before you book the rental. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches. You will need to establish what configuration is best for your group.
  • If your group is vacationing with pets, you'll need to search for a property that allows animals. Ask for information on breed, size, and type requirements. Be aware that some property managers require additional pet deposits and fees.
  • If there's a particular Havelock destination you are enamored with, search for homes that are either nearby, or those that cater to your desires.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.

During your stay:

  • Review arrival and departure procedures before leaving home. Save the directions to your phone, and take a printed backup.
  • Hosts are great sources of help! Feel free to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Keep the property locked while you're away! Don't let crooks spoil your family vacation.
  • To make certain no damages are attributed to your stay, inspect the rental for any problem areas during check in. Get in touch with the property manager right away to document your findings. If there is a dispute, having the recorded concerns and contact attempts will be very helpful.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant vacationers bothering your life at home. Use the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and scenic spots you would've not otherwise known about!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can usually help. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • On check-out day, take a walk-through to confirm you haven't leave anything behind. Remember to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Did you have a terrific vacation? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for clients to provide comments. If your property and/or property management company was great, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was amiss and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
