Rental home tips and tricks:
Sticking to your rental home budget:
- To get the best vacation home for your budget, we suggest reserving in Fall or Spring. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, better selection, warm weather and the absence of giant crowds at your favorite restaurants and activities. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Havelock vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
- In the Havelock area, The sooner your group can book a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable rental properties are booked very early. Booking your vacation property 6-12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental property.
- Owners sometimes offer discounts for veterans. Make sure to check with your property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your family before you book.
- Property managers often offer guests an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for additional information.
- Find a copy of your local visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitor guide magazines contain money saving offers on local tours, shops, and attractions.
Use filters to narrow your rental search:
- Select your vacation week and spending budget.
- Determine how many beds and the configuration your family needs. Seabbatical with Water Views, Close to Downtown has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is often available on booking pages. If they are not listed, call the property management company before you reserve your home. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches. You'll need to work out what bed configuration is best for your group.
- If there's an individual Havelock destination you crave, keep an eye out for homes that are either nearby, or those that cater especially to your desires.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Make certain to ask about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
- If your group is vacationing with pets, you must reserve a property that allows animals. Request specifics on breed, weight, and type requirements. Some property managers require additional pet deposits and fees.
More tips for your stay:
- Take a copy of the property manager's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your rental home. Put the host's information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Document any damages to the rental during check in, and immediately e-mail them to the owner. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that are useful if damages are attributed to your stay.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, television set or kitchen appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief call prevents a lot of concerns.
- Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Often, nearby homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to enjoy a steak with a view, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
- Keep your rental home locked while you're gone! Don't let burglars ruin your family vacation.
- Double-check the property to make sure that you've packed all of your family's items at check-out. Make sure to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the rental a final time and keep an eye out for damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the host whenever you can. If the manager is not available, remember to take pictures of the property to record its condition.
- Did your family have a great vacation? Many rental managers make it easy for customers to provide feedback. If your rental and/or property manager was great, they would love to hear it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
