Tips and Tricks for getting the perfect Emerald Isle vacation rental experience:
How to get the best rental value:
- Summer is high season in Emerald Isle. To find the best value, shift your group's trip dates to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and even October offer warmer temperatures, fewer crowds, and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Havelock vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
- Book your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rentals during Winter holiday get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager if your vacationing group qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
- Management companies and individual rental owners often offer customers an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually will cost you between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for more information.
- Often, management companies supply Havelock area travel guide magazines which will include money-saving deals, either offered directly by local businesses, or through a relationship between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Havelock visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

Advice for a wonderful stay:
- Add the owner's contact information to your smartphone. Understand and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- Record any issues with the property upon arrival, and immediately contact the host. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are beneficial if there is a dispute.
- Hosts are available to help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
- Be respectful of your neighbors. Often, nearby homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can usually help. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Protect the owner (and your things!) by locking the rental when you are out, just like you would back home.
- When it's time to leave, take a walk-through to make sure you haven't forget anything. Check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Walk through the property a final time and keep an eye out for damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the host whenever you can. If the host is not available, remember to take video and pictures of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Leave feedback! Hosts rely on good reviews to stimulate new bookings. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other families will will be grateful for your review and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to solve it.
