Tips to get the best vacation home experience:

When to book & When to go:

  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in the Havelock area. Booking a rental in Fall or Spring months is a good way to save money on your vacation. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of desirable properties. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the high season.
  • The sooner your group can book a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The best rental homes are reserved very early. Booking your vacation rental six - twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to search for and reserve your vacation home.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager if your family qualifies for a reduced rate.
  • Property management companies often offer renters an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for days missed as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for specifics.
  • Look for your local Havelock visitors guide magazine when you check-in. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great information, visitors guide magazines contain coupons for nearby shops and restaurants.

How to choose and book the right Havelock rental home:

  • Choose dates and budget.
  • Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Salt & Light, Oceanfront House in Indian Beach, NC! has 9 bedrooms and 11 bathrooms.
  • Specific details about bedrooms and bed counts is generally available on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, reach out to the property manager before reserving your home. Remember that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds and bunks. You will need to establish which bed configuration is suitable for your vacation group.
  • If there's a certain Havelock attraction you long to visit, search for rentals that are either close by, or those that cater especially to your needs.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Make certain to ask about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
  • Traveling with pets? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your rental agreement! Additional pet fees or costs applied to your invoice.

Know before you go:

  • Store the owner's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Upon arrival, note any damages to the property and immediately alert the host. Record all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, A/V setup or WIFI setup. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief call prevents many problems.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay more pleasurable. You'll magnify your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are a terrific resource to find the best local spots.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Lock your vacation home while you're out and about. Keep your property safe!
  • Re-check the property to confirm that you've packed all of your family's items on check-out day. Re-check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Go through the rental a final time and scan for damage. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager isn't available, remember to take video of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did you have a excellent vacation? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for clients to provide comments. If your rental and/or property management company was fantastic, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was defective and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
