Our top Vacation rental home tips and tricks:
Finding your perfect vacation home:
- Reserve your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules often become available a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families book their Summer vacations during holiday gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Summer months are the most expensive season in the Havelock area. Book your rental property in Fall or Spring to enjoy warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Havelock vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective vacation rental company or host whether your family qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
- Property managers typically offer renters an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for details.
- Find a copy of your local visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local information, visitor guide magazines have coupons for nearby tours, shops, and attractions.
Selecting the perfect rental:
- First, have your family decide on vacation dates and a max budget.
- Decide how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. 3rd Row Oceanview Duplex, beach and community pool access, in Spinnaker's Reach has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed counts & types is usually available online. If they are not listed, email or call the property owner before you book the rental. Remember that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches. You'll need to determine what is right for your group.
- Some properties allow pets, and others do not. Allowable types of pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added charges may apply. Ask your host about allowable breeds and types before booking.
- Are you visiting for a single attraction or event? If so, use a map search to find nearby properties.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. .
More tips for your visit:
- Take a copy of the owner's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental property.
- Hosts are there to help! Don't be shy to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Lock your vacation home while you are away. Keep your property safe!
- During check-in, make note of any issues with the rental property and immediately alert the owner. Record all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome vacationers bothering your peaceful home life. Apply the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and attractions you would have not otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can typically help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
- At departure, complete a walk-through to make sure you didn't leave anything behind. Re-check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did your family have a fantastic stay? Many rental home management companies make it easy for customers to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or property management company was great, they would love to hear it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
