Strategies to get the perfect vacation property experience:
Sticking to your budget:
- Summer is the most expensive season along the coast of NC. Book your Havelock rental home in Spring or Fall to enjoy warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Havelock vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
- Book your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually open a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families book their Summer rental homes during Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host if your vacationing group qualifies for a reduced rate.
- Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer guests an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for days missed as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for more information.
- Look for your local Havelock visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitor guides contain money saving offers on local attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.
How to choose the best vacation home:
- First and foremost, have your group choose vacation dates and a budget.
- Decide how many beds and the configuration your group requires. Family-Friendly! Golf Cart, Large Screened Porch, King Beds, Minutes From Beach has 5 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is regularly accessible on booking websites. If not, email or call the property owner before reserving the property. Remember that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds.
- Are you visiting for a specific attraction? Use a map search to find nearby properties.
- Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
- If your group is traveling with pets, search for a property that allows animals. Ask for details on breed, size, and type requirements. Note that some property owners charge pet deposits and fees.
More considerations for your visit:
- We recommend storing the manager's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Record any damages to the property during check in, and immediately e-mail them to the owner. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are helpful if a dispute arises.
- Hosts are available to help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant visitors disrupting your peace. Use the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and attractions you would've not otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can frequently help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Keep the property locked while you're out! Don't let thieves spoil your family vacation.
- Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, walk through the property to reconfirm you've collected all personal belongings. Check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the rental one final time and look for damages to contents or the property itself. We suggest inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager isn't available, remember to take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition.
- Did your family have a great time? Most rental management companies make it easy for customers to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or property management company was terrific, they would love to hear about it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
