Strategies to get the optimal vacation home experience:
How to get the best value:
- Book your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often open 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacations during holiday get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in Emerald Isle. To find the best vacation home within your budget, we strongly suggest reserving in Fall or Spring. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, better selection, beautiful weather and the absence of large crowds at Havelock restaurants, tours, and activities.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host whether your family qualifies for a reduced rate.
- Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer customers an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for details.
- Find a copy of your local visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitors guide magazines have money saving offers on local attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.
How to pick the best rental home:
- First and foremost, have your group commit to date ranges and a budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and the configuration your family requires. Pool - Ocean Front - Dogs OK! has 5 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is almost always accessible online. If they are not listed, email or call the host before you reserve your home. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds and bunks. You will need to establish what is right for your vacation.
- If your family is bringing pets, you must reserve a rental that allows animals. Get specifics on breed, weight, and type requirements. Often, hosts charge additional pet fees.
- Visiting for a single attraction? If so, use a map search to locate nearby properties.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all required amenities are included before reserving a rental.
Know before you go:
- We recommend storing the owner's information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Property managers are great sources of help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Lock your vacation home while you're away. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
- To make certain that damages aren't linked to your family's stay, make a record of any problem areas upon your arrival. Get in touch with the host immediately to document any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having a record of issues and contact attempts will be useful.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant vacationers bothering your peaceful home life. Employ the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and attractions you would've not otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to enjoy a steak with a view, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Double-check the vacation property to confirm that you've packed all of your belongings on check-out day. Make sure to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- After your trip, leave a review! Property managers rely on good feedback to stimulate new reservations. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationing families will be thankful you shared your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to remedy it.
