Our top Rental home tips and tricks:
Sticking to your rental budget:
- Summer time is high season in the Havelock area. To book the largest vacation home for your budget, we recommend booking in Fall or Spring. You'll enjoy lower rates, greater selection, beautiful weather and the absence of giant crowds at the beach and popular attractions. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer months.
- Reserve your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often become available a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families reserve their Summer rental homes during holiday get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Property management companies sometimes offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your family before you book.
- Property managers usually offer their guests an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for details.
- Often, property management companies supply Havelock area visitor guide magazines which include coupons, either offered independently by local businesses, or through a relationship between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Havelock visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Planning and choosing yourrental:

- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to enjoy a steak with a view, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Protect the rental owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home when you are away, just like you would at home.
- Double-check the property to confirm that you've packed all of your belongings at departure. Check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the rental one final time and look for damage. We advise inspecting the property with the host whenever possible. If the manager is not available, remember to take video and pictures of the property to record its condition.
- After your trip, leave feedback! Hosts rely on great reviews to propel more reservations. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationers will be thankful you shared your review find their best vacation home. Remember to be objective.
