Vacation rental tips and tricks:
When to visit & When to reserve a Havelock rental home:
- In the Havelock area, The sooner your group can reserve a home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable vacation homes are reserved very early. Reserving your rental property 6-12 months before your vacation is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental.
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal NC. Book your vacation home in Fall or Spring to get the benefit of gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during June, July, and August.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager if your family qualifies for a price reduction.
- Booking websites usually offer their guests an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which usually will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for details.
- Look for your local Havelock visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitor guide magazines contain offers and deals for local restaurants, attractions, and tours.
Use filters to narrow your search:
- Choose vacation dates and maximum budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the configuration your family requires. Third-floor courtyard condo with balcony, WiFi, pools, hot tub & putt-putt has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rentals search.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is usually available on booking websites. If they are not listed, email the host before you book the property. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
- Are you traveling with furry, four-legged family members? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Ask your host before booking, and study your agreement! Additional fees or charges applied to your agreement.
- If there's an individual Havelock destination you are crazy about, keep an eye out for rentals that are either close by, or those that cater especially to your requirements.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before reserving a rental
During your stay:
- Store the owner's contact information in your smartphone.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, intercom or kitchen appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents quite a few difficulties.
- Ensure you protect the owner (and your things!) by locking the rental while you are gone, just like you would back home.
- At Check-in, note any damages to the rental property and immediately alert the owner. Keep records of all coorespondence.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You will increase your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are a terrific resource to find the best local beaches.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Re-check the property to make sure that you've packed everything at check-out. Re-check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the property a final time and look for any damage. We advise walking through with the host whenever you can. If the host is not available, remember to take video and pictures of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- After your trip, leave feedback! Hosts rely on excellent feedback to drive more reservations. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationers will will be grateful for your review and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to fix it.
