How to find the best rental experience:

Getting the best rental value:

  • Summertime is the most expensive season in coastal NC. To get the best rental within budget, we suggest reserving in Fall or Spring. You'll benefit from lower rates, better selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of giant crowds at your favorite restaurants and activities. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Havelock vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
  • The sooner your group can book, the better your selection will be. The best vacation homes are reserved early. Reserving your rental property six to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental home.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host if your group qualifies for a discount.
  • Booking websites usually offer customers an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which costs 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for more information.
  • Many rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply Havelock area travel guide magazines which will include coupons, either offered independently by local companies, or through a relationship with the management company and the business itself. You can also find Havelock visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

Use filters to narrow your rental search:

  • Select a designated group leader, select your dates, and select a spending budget.
  • Determine how many beds and the bed configuration your family needs. A stone's throw away from the sand! First floor, Family sized condo! has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is often available on booking pages. Otherwise, call the property manager before you book the rental. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches.
  • If there's a specific Havelock beach you crave, browse properties that are either nearby, or those that cater especially to your needs.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. .
  • If your family is bringing pets, you'll need to search for a property that allows animals. Request specifics on breed, size, and type requirements. Some property managers charge pet deposits and fees.

Additional considerations:

  • Get the host's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your . Put the host's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Note any damages to the property at check in, and immediately contact the host. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are valuable if a dispute is filed.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, stereo or thermostat. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents lots of issues.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome visitors bothering your peace. Practice the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and attractions you would've not otherwise known about!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Protect the rental owner (and your things!) by locking the rental when you are gone, just like you would at home.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, walk through the rental property to reconfirm you've collected all personal belongings. Remember to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Walk through the rental one final time and keep an eye out for damages to contents or the property itself. We advise inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host is not available, ensure that you take video and pictures of the property to record its condition.
  • Did you have a wonderful stay? Most rental websites make it easy for travelers to provide comments. If your property and/or property manager was terrific, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was defective and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
