Tricks and tips for getting the best Atlantic Beach vacation home experience:
Sticking to a rental home budget:
- The earlier you can book a rental home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable properties are booked early. Booking your rental home 6-12 months before your vacation is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and book your vacation rental.
- Summer months are high season in the Havelock area. To get the best value, try shifting your group's trip dates to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and October offer great temperatures, fewer crowds, and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Havelock vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
- Some owners offer special rates for active duty military and veterans. Make sure to check with your host or property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your family before you book.
- Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer renters an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which generally will cost you 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for more information.
- Find a copy of your local Havelock area magazine when you check-in. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, travel guides have deals for nearby tours and attractions.
Narrow your Search:
- Begin by choosing trip dates and a max budget.
- Decide how many beds and the bed configuration your family needs. Oceanfront Complex, First Floor Southwinds, Ocean & Sound Views, 2 Pools! has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed counts & types is generally accessible on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, call the host before booking your home. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds and bunks.
- If your family is bringing pets, you'll need to search for a rental that allows animals. Make sure to ask for details on breed, size, and type requirements. Note that some property owners charge pet deposits and fees.
- Looking for unique amenities? Most rental search websites include amenity lists and search filters.
- Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before reserving a rental
More considerations:
- Add the owner's contact info to your phone. Print and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- Hosts are there to help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Protect the rental owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home when you are away, just like you would back home.
- Upon check-in, document any issues with the property and immediately contact the owner. Record all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
- Respect your neighbors. Often, nearby homes are filled by local residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking regulations is the right thing to do.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
- At departure, complete a walk-through to make sure you have not leave anything behind. Make sure to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the property one final time and look for damages to contents or the property itself. We advise walking through with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host is not available, take pictures of the rental to record its condition.
- After your trip, leave a review! Hosts rely on great feedback to inspire future bookings. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationing families will appreciate that you share your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to fix it.
