Tips and Tricks to get the best rental experience:
Get the most from your rental home budget:
- Book your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often become available a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacations during Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months along the coast of NC. Book your Havelock rental in Fall or Spring to get the benefit of warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the high season.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host if your vacationing group qualifies for a price reduction.
- Property management companies frequently offer guests an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
- Find a copy of your local visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitor guides have deals for local accommodations and attractions.
Use filters to narrow your rental search:
- Start by choosing potential vacation weeks and a spending budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your family needs. Southwinds D2 Oceanfront Complex has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Havelock rentals search.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is usually available on booking websites. If not, reach out to the property owner before you book the vacation property. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds and bunks. You'll need to establish what is suitable for your vacation.
- Some rentals allow pets, and others don't. Acceptable types of pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional charges may apply. Ask the property manager about pets before booking.
- If there's a specific Havelock attraction you crave, search for properties that are either close by, or those that cater to your requirements.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all required amenities are included before booking.
Advice for a smooth stay:
- Add the host's information to your phone. Take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, intercom or washer/dryer. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief call prevents many concerns.
- Ensure you protect the owner (and your stuff!) by locking the property while you are gone, just like you would back home.
- To make sure that damages aren't linked to your visit, note any problem areas during arrival. Get in touch with the host immediately to report any damages. If there is a dispute, having a record of concerns and contact attempts will be useful.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll magnify your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors can be an excellent resource to find the best local attractions.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can often help. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, take a walk through the rental to confirm you've collected everything. Remember to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Leave feedback! Property owners rely on good feedback to propel new reservations. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other families will be thankful you shared your experience find their best rental home. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to solve it.
