Our top Vacation rental home tips and tricks:
Sticking to your spending plan:
- The sooner your group can book a rental home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable rental properties are booked early. Booking your vacation property up to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental property.
- Summertime is high season in Atlantic Beach. To find the best value, change your family's Havelock vacation week to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and October offer warm temperatures, , and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer.
- Some hosts and property managers offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. Check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your group before you book.
- Booking websites usually offer customers an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for more information.
- Look for your local Havelock area magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, travel guide magazines contain offers and deals for nearby attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.
How to choose and book the right Havelock rental home:
- First and foremost, have your group select a vacation week and a maximum budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. Dog-friendly corner townhome with deck & patio - walk to the beach & town has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is generally available on booking websites. Otherwise, email the property owner before you reserve the vacation property. Remember that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds. You'll need to work out what is best for your family.
- If your family is traveling with pets, you'll need to book a pet-friendly vacation rental. Request information on breed, weight, and type requirements. Usually, property owners charge pet deposits and fees.
- Does your group require unique amenities? Most websites include search filters with amenity lists. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find the perfect rental.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. .
Considerations for your stay:
- Store the manager's contact information in your smartphone.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, elevator or kitchen appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents many issues.
- Protect the owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home while you are out, just like you would at home.
- Make a record of any issues with the rental during check in, and immediately e-mail them to the host. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be very helpful if damages are attributed to your stay.
- Be a good neighbor. Often times, surrounding homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can frequently help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, take a walk through the rental to reconfirm you've collected everything. Re-check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the property a final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We suggest walking through with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager isn't available, take photos of the rental to record its condition.
- Did you have a fantastic time? Many rental websites make it easy for customers to provide comments. If your rental property and/or property management company was terrific, they would love to hear about it. If anything was inoperable and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
