Tips and Tricks for getting the best rental home experience:

Sticking to your spending budget:

  • Book your vacation in the Spring or Fall to get the benefit of beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities.
  • Reserve your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules usually become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families book their Summer rentals during Winter holiday get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Hosts and Property managers sometimes offer discounts or promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your host or property manager to see if special discounts are available for your family before you book.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners often offer guests an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for specifics.
  • Find a copy of your local Havelock visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local stories, visitor guides have offers and deals for nearby shops and restaurants.

Narrow your rental Search:

  • Select a group leader, select your vacation week, and choose a spending budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration your family requires. Glasshouse West, Oceanfront Duplex in Emerald Isle, NC! has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts is usually accessible on booking pages. If they are not listed, email the property owner before you reserve the property. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which frequently includes pull out couches in living rooms. You will need to determine what configuration is optimal for your trip.
  • Looking for specific amenities? Most rental search websites include amenity lists and search filters. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before reserving a rental
  • Some rentals allow pets, but others do not. Acceptable types of dog or cat, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added costs may apply. Ask your host about allowable breeds and types before booking.

Tips for your stay:

  • Take a copy of the owner's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your . Store the manager's information in your smartphone.
  • To ensure that damages aren't attributed to your stay, inspect the property for any problem areas upon your arrival. Call the property manager right away to report any damages. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having the recorded concerns and contact attempts will be useful.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, intercom or washer/dryer. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents quite a few difficulties.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant vacationers bothering your quiet neighborhood. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and attractions you would've never otherwise known!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can often help. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by locking the property while you are out, just like you would back home.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, take a walk through the property to confirm you've collected everything. Re-check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Go through the rental one final time and scan for damage. We advise inspecting the property with the property manager whenever possible. If the host isn't available, remember to take photographs of the property to record its condition.
  • Did your family have a great stay? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for guests to provide comments. If your property and/or property management company was great, they would love to hear it. If anything was wrong and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
