Rental property booking tips and tricks:
Getting the most from your budget:
- The sooner you can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The best vacation homes are reserved very early. Reserving your vacation rental 6-12 months before your vacation is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and book your rental property.
- To get the most suitable vacation home for your budget, we recommend booking in Fall or Spring months. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, greater selection, warm weather and the absence of large crowds at popular attractions and restaurants. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Havelock vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
- Property management companies sometimes offer promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. Check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your group before you book.
- Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer renters an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed time as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
- Find a copy of your local visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local stories, visitor guide magazines have money saving offers on local accommodations, restaurants and tours.
Filter your search:
- Start by having your family decide on the best dates and a max budget.
- Determine how many beds and the configuration your group requires. Seaside Serenity: 5-Bedroom Oasis with Pool & Ocean Views has 5 bedrooms and 7 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our search.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts is usually accessible on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, contact the property owner before booking the home. Remember that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You will need to determine what configuration is suitable for your family.
- If your group is traveling with pets, you'll need to find a pet-friendly vacation rental. Request information on breed, weight, and type requirements. Some hosts require additional pet deposits and fees.
- Is your group looking for unique amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters for amenities. Use these filters to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are available before booking
Some things to know before you go:
- Put the manager's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Hosts are available to help! Feel free to ask any questions during your stay.
- Lock your vacation home while you're out. Protect the owner's property and your things!
- Document any issues with the rental at check in, and immediately e-mail them to the property manager. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that are very helpful if there is a dispute.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant vacationers bothering your peaceful home. Employ the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and attractions you would've not otherwise known!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Just prior to departing, complete a final walk-through to make sure you did not forget any personal items. Re-check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Remember to leave feedback! Property owners rely on great ratings to inspire new bookings. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationers will be thankful you shared your feedback find their best vacation rental. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to solve it.
