Havelock rental home tips and tricks:
When to reserve a Havelock rental home & When to go:
- Summer is high season in Emerald Isle. Reserving a rental home in Fall or Spring is our favorite way to save money on your vacation. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of suitable homes. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Havelock vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
- Reserve your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules generally become available a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups book their Summer rental homes during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Some hosts offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. Remember to ask your host or property manager if special discounts are available for your group before you book.
- Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer guests an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally will cost you between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for more information.
- Find a copy of your local Havelock area magazine when you check-in. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, travel guides have coupons for nearby accommodations, restaurants and tours.
Use filters to search efficiently:
- Select a designated group leader, choose your trip dates, and select a budget.
- Decide how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Oceanview, close to beach, pool, fire pit, dog friendly with no extra fee! has 5 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is regularly available online. If not, email or call the host before booking the rental. Remember that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches.
- Visiting for a single event or attraction? Use a map search to browse nearby properties.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
- Some rentals allow pets, but some do not. Acceptable types of dog or cat, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional charges may apply. Ask your host about pets before booking.
Know before you go:
- Take a copy of the owner's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental home. Store the manager's contact information in your smartphone.
- Upon arrival, make note of any issues with the property and immediately alert the owner. Keep records of all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, television set or WIFI setup. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent a lot of issues.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll magnify your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are often a fantastic resource to find the best local spots.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Lock your rental while you are out. Protect your property!
- Re-check every room of the vacation property to make sure that you've packed all belongings at check-out. Remember to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Walk through the property a final time and look for damages to contents or the property itself. We suggest inspecting the property with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager isn't available, take photos of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Did you have a wonderful time? Many rental managers make it easy for clients to provide comments. If your rental and/or host was great, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was wrong and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
