Strategies to get the perfect vacation property experience:

Getting the most from your rental budget:

  • Summer time is high season in Atlantic Beach. Reserve your vacation home in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons to enjoy gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Havelock vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
  • Reserve your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules generally open a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families book their Summer vacation rentals during Christmas and Thanksgiving get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner whether your vacationing group qualifies for a reduced rate.
  • Property managers typically offer renters an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed days as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for additional information.
  • Look for your local Havelock visitors guide magazine upon checking in. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, travel guides have money saving offers on local accommodations, tours and attractions.

Use filters to search efficiently:

  • To start, have your group decide on vacation dates and a maximum budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. Seaside Villas 1, Almost Oceanfront Duplex in Atlantic Beach, NC! has 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is often available on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, call the property management company before you reserve the property. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull out couches in living rooms. You'll need to determine which bed configuration is suitable for your vacation.
  • If there's a certain Havelock beach you love, keep an eye out for rentals that are either near by, or those that cater especially to your needs.
  • Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before reserving a rental
  • Some rental properties allow pets, and some don't. Allowable types of family pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added charges may apply. Ask the host about pets before booking.

Have a wonderful stay:

  • Be sure you get the property manager's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental property.
  • To ensure that damages are not attributed to your family's stay, inspect the rental for any problem areas upon your arrival. Call the host right away to relay any issues. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having a record of issues and contact attempts will be very helpful.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, stereo or kitchen appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent lots of issues.
  • Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Frequently, adjacent homes are filled by local residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking policies is the right thing to do.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can often help. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Keep the property locked while you're out! Don't let burglars ruin your trip.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, walk through the rental to confirm you've collected all personal belongings. Re-check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Inspect the rental one final time and look for damage. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host isn't available, ensure that you take photos and video of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did you have a great stay? Many rental management companies make it easy for guests to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or property management company was wonderful, they would love to hear about it. If anything was out of order and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
