Our top Vacation rental home tips and tricks:
When to book & When to go:
- Reserve your vacation home in Spring or Fall to get the benefit of warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the high season.
- Reserve your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules often open twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rental homes during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner whether your group qualifies for a special rate.
- Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer renters an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed days as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
- Look for your local Havelock visitors guide magazine when you check-in. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitors guide magazines have deals for local attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.
Make a plan and choose the right Havelock vacation home:
- Choose vacation dates and spending budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. Village West #20, Oceanside Townhouse in Emerald Isle, NC! has 2 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed counts is commonly accessible on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, contact the host before you reserve your rental. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds in living rooms.
- Does your family require specific amenities? Most rental websites include search filters for amenities.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
- If your group is bringing pets, you'll need to find a pet-friendly rental. Get specifics on breed, size, and type requirements. Usually, property managers charge additional pet fees.
Some things to know before you go:
- We recommend storing the manager's contact information in your smartphone.
- Upon check-in, record any issues with the rental property and immediately contact the owner. Record all coorespondence.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, television set or washer/dryer. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents quite a few problems.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful visitors disrupting your peaceful home life. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and places you would've not otherwise known!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can frequently help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
- Lock your rental home while you're away. Protect your property!
- Just prior to departing, take a walk-through to confirm you didn't forget anything. Remember to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the rental one final time and look for any damage. We suggest walking through with the host whenever possible. If the host is not available, take photos of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- After your trip, leave feedback! Property managers rely on good feedback to propel future reservations. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationing families will be thankful you shared your feedback find their best vacation home. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to solve it.
