Tips to get the best vacation home experience:
When to visit Atlantic Beach & When to book:
- Summertime is the most expensive season in coastal NC. To get the largest rental within your budget, we highly recommend booking in Fall or Spring. You'll enjoy lower rates, greater selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of large crowds at the beach and popular Havelock attractions. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during June, July, and August.
- The sooner you can book a rental home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable rental homes are booked early. Reserving your rental property 6-12 months before your vacation is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental.
- Some hosts and property managers offer discounts for veterans. Check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your group before you book.
- Property managers frequently offer renters an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed time as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for additional information.
- Look for your local Havelock visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, travel guides contain discounts for local accommodations, tours and attractions.
Use filters to narrow your search:
- To start, have your group decide on trip dates and a maximum budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your family requires. Beachfront home with ocean-view balcony, two pools, waterslide, & beach access has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed types is regularly available online. If they are not listed, contact the host before reserving the property. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds.
- If there's a specific Havelock attraction you crave, look for rentals that are either near by, or those that cater to your desires.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before booking
- If your family is traveling with pets, you will need a property that allows animals. Get details on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Some property managers charge additional pet fees.
Advice for a smooth stay:
- Store the host's information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Document any damages to the property upon arrival, and immediately send them to the host. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that are very helpful if a dispute is filed.
- Hosts are available to help! Feel free to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You'll enhance your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors can be a great resource to find the best local beaches.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to find the fresh catch of the day, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
- Lock your rental home while you are out. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
- Upon check-out, take a walk-through to make sure you didn't forget any personal items. Re-check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Leave feedback! Hosts rely on good ratings to compel more bookings. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationers will be thankful you shared your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to remedy it.
