Vacation rental booking tips:
Cost saving strategies:
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months along the coast of NC. To find the most suitable vacation home within budget, we strongly suggest reserving in Fall or Spring. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, greater selection, beautiful weather and the absence of large crowds at restaurants, beaches, and activities. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable during June, July, and August.
- Book your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often open a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families reserve their Summer rentals during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Property managers sometimes offer special rates for veterans and active duty military. It's always a good idea to check with your host or property manager to see if discounts are available for your group.
- Property management companies typically offer guests an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for details.
- Find a copy of your local visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitor guide magazines have discounts for local tours and attractions.
Use filters to narrow your search:
- Begin by choosing a vacation week and a maximum budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration your group requires. Agape West, Oceanfront Duplex in Emerald Isle, NC! has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Havelock rental home search.
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is generally available on booking websites. If they are not listed, contact the host before you book the vacation property. Remember that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull out couches in living rooms.
- Are you visiting for a specific attraction or event? Use a map search to find nearby properties.
- Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Remember to confirm all required amenities are available and included before reserving a rental
- Some rentals allow pets, but some don't. Acceptable types of pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and added costs may apply. Ask the property manager about pets before booking.
More considerations for your visit:
- Get the property manager's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental property. Put the manager's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Make a record of any issues with the rental during check in, and immediately send them to the host. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that can be beneficial if a dispute arises.
- Hosts are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay more pleasurable. You will enhance your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are a great source for finding the best local spots.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
- Lock your rental property while you are gone! Don't let thieves spoil your holiday.
- At departure, complete a final walk-through to confirm you did not forget any personal items. Re-check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Walk through the rental a final time and scan for damage. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the manager isn't available, remember to take video and pictures of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Remember to leave a review! Property managers rely on excellent feedback to propel more bookings. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something went awry, other families will be thankful you shared your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to solve it.
