Tricks and tips for getting the perfect vacation home experience:
Finding your perfect rental home:
- The earlier your group can book a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable rental properties are reserved early. Booking your rental property up to 12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and book your vacation rental.
- Summertime is the most expensive season along the coast of NC. To get the best value, shift your trip dates to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and October offer warmer weather, , and greatly reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Havelock vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner whether your group qualifies for a price reduction.
- Property managers usually offer their guests an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for specifics.
- Find a copy of your local Havelock visitors guide magazine when you check-in. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great information, travel guide magazines have discounts for nearby tours, shops, and attractions.
Use filters to search efficiently:
- Select a group leader, choose your dates, and select a spending budget.
- Decide how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration you need. Big Kahuna - Oceanfront (As seen on HGTV Beach Hunters) has 6 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is usually available online. If not, call the property management company before you book the vacation property. Note that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
- If your family is traveling with pets, search for a pet-friendly property. Ask for details on breed, weight, and type requirements. Some property managers require additional pet deposits and fees.
- Visiting for a single attraction or event? If so, use a map search to browse nearby properties.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
Some things to know before you go:
- Get the property manager's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, intercom or appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent quite a few difficulties.
- Protect the owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home when you are out, just like you would back home.
- To make sure that damages are not attributed to your family's stay, inspect the property for any problem areas upon check in. text the property manager right away to report any issues. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having a record of issues and contact attempts will be useful.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You will magnify your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are a fantastic resource to find the best local beaches.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, take a walk through the property to confirm you've collected all of your things. Check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did your group have a wonderful time? Many rental websites make it easy for clients to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or property manager was great, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was amiss and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
