Tricks and tips for getting the perfect vacation property experience:
Find your perfect rental:
- Reserve your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often open twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacation rentals during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Reserve your Havelock vacation home in Fall or Spring months to get the benefit of beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host if your vacationing group qualifies for a special rate.
- Property managers typically offer their guests an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally will cost you 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any days missed as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for specifics.
- Find a copy of your local Havelock visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitors guides contain deals for local restaurants, attractions, and tours.
Planning, picking, and booking a perfectrental home:
- Begin by choosing your trip dates and a budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your group requires. Canal-Front Condo with 5' Deep Water Boat Slip, AC, W/D & Walkable Location has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed counts & types is almost always available online. If they are not listed, email or call the property manager before reserving your home. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull out couches in living rooms. You'll need to determine what configuration is suitable for your family.
- If your family is bringing pets, you'll need to book a pet-friendly rental. Make sure to ask for details on breed, size, and type restrictions. Be aware that some property managers charge pet deposits and fees.
- If there's a particular Havelock beach you love, search for properties that are either near by, or those that cater to your needs.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are included before booking.
More tips for your visit:
- Be sure you get the owner's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental home. Put the manager's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, intercom or thermostat. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent a lot of issues.
- Keep the property locked while you're gone! Don't let crooks ruin your family vacation.
- Record any issues with the property upon arrival, and immediately contact the owner. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are beneficial if damages are attributed to your stay.
- Respect the neighborhood. Often times, adjacent homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting noise limits and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, walk through the property to confirm you've collected everything. Make sure to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the rental a final time and look for damage. We advise inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can. If the manager isn't available, take photographs of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your family have a great stay? Most rental home management companies make it easy for clients to provide feedback. If your rental and/or host was great, they would love to hear it. If anything was wrong and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
