Tricks and tips to get the perfect vacation property experience:

When to reserve a Havelock rental home & When to go:

  • Book your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules usually open a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families book their Summer rentals during Thanksgiving and Christmas get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in the Havelock area. Reserving a rental home in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons is a great way to save on your vacation rental. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of acceptable homes.
  • Some property managers offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. Remember to ask your property manager if special offers are available for your family before you book.
  • Property managers typically offer their guests an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which generally will cost you 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed days as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
  • Look for your local visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local articles, travel guide magazines have offers and deals for nearby attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.

Choosing and booking your prefect Havelock rental:

  • Start by having your family commit to vacation dates and a spending budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your group requires. The Gray Whale Cottage-Pet Friendly Home has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Havelock rentals search.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is regularly available on booking websites. If they are not listed, call the property owner before you book the home. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds in living rooms.
  • If your group is vacationing with pets, you will need a rental that allows animals. Ask for information on breed, size, and type requirements. Note that some hosts require additional pet deposits and fees.
  • Are you visiting for a specific event? Try a map search to browse nearby properties.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.

Some things to know before you go:

  • Take a copy of the property manager's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your .
  • Property managers are available to help! Feel free to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Lock your rental while you're out and about. Keep your property safe!
  • To ensure that no damages are attributed to your stay, make a record of any problem areas when you arrive. Call the host immediately to relay any damages. If there is a dispute, having a record of concerns and contact attempts will be useful.
  • Be respectful of your neighbors. Often, adjacent homes are filled by local residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking rules is the right thing to do.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to find the fresh catch of the day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, walk through the property to reconfirm you've collected all belongings. Make sure to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Go through the property a final time and look for damage. We advise inspecting the property with the host whenever you can. If the host isn't available, take photos and video of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did you have a terrific stay? Most rental home management companies make it easy for guests to provide comments. If your property and/or property management company was terrific, they would love to hear it. If anything was out of order and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
