Tips for getting the perfect Havelock vacation rental experience:
Cost saving strategies:
- In the Havelock area, The sooner your group can reserve a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The best rental homes are reserved very early. Reserving your rental 6-12 months before your vacation is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental.
- Summertime is the most expensive season in Pine Knoll Shores. Reserve your vacation in Spring or Fall to get the benefit of gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the high season.
- Some property management companies offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. Make sure to check with your host or property manager to see if special offers are available for your group.
- Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer customers an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for specifics.
- Find a copy of your local visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, travel guides have money saving offers on local accommodations, tours and attractions.
Use filters to search efficiently:
- Select vacation dates and max budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your group needs. Cottage at Pine Knoll Shores (Pet Friendly) has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our vacation rental search.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is generally available on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, contact the property manager before booking the vacation home. Remember that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull out couches in living rooms. You will need to establish what is suitable for your group.
- Remember to include your furry companions! Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement! Additional pet fees or costs may be applied to your contract.
- Is your group looking for unique amenities? Most websites include amenity lists and search filters. Use these to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
- Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before reserving a rental
Tips for your stay:
- Store the manager's information in your smartphone.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, intercom or coffee maker. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent a lot of problems.
- Lock your rental while you are out. Protect your property!
- During check-in, document any damages to the property and immediately contact the owner. Keep records of all coorespondence.
- Respect your neighbors. Often times, surrounding homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Double-check every room of the rental property to make sure that you've packed all personal items at departure. Remember to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the property one final time and scan for damage. We advise inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host isn't available, remember to take video and pictures of the property to record its condition.
- Did you have a great stay? Most rental management companies make it easy for clients to provide comments. If your rental property and/or property management company was terrific, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was defective and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
