Tips and Tricks to get the best vacation home experience:
Sticking to your rental budget:
- Reserve your vacation home in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons to get the benefit of warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Havelock vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
- Book your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually open twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families reserve their Summer rental homes during Christmas and Thanksgiving gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Some property managers offer rate reductions for veterans and active duty military. Ask your host or property manager if special discounts are available for your group before you book.
- Booking websites typically offer their guests an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally will cost you between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any days missed as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for more information.
- Look for your local visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitor guide magazines have deals for local shops and restaurants.
Choosing the best vacation rental:
- To start, have your family agree to vacation dates and a max budget.
- Note the number beds and the bed configuration your group needs. Great Ocean & Pool Views! 2 Bed 2 Bath Luxury Condo Sleeps 6 has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is usually available on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, contact the property management company before you book the vacation home. Note that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull out couches in living rooms. You'll need to determine what is best for your vacation group.
- If there's a certain Havelock destination you crave, search for rentals that are either near by, or those that cater to your needs.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
- If your family is bringing pets, you will need a pet-friendly rental. Make sure to ask for details on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Some property owners charge pet deposits and fees.
Some things to know before you go:
- Take a copy of the property manager's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your .
- To ensure that no damages are linked to your stay, make note of any problem areas during check in. Contact the property manager immediately to record your findings. If there is a dispute, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be very helpful.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, intercom or appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents a lot of problems.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will magnify your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are an incredible source for finding the best local scenic spots.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Lock your vacation home while you're out and about. Keep your property safe!
- Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, walk through the rental property to reconfirm you've collected all personal items. Remember to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the property a final time and keep an eye out for damage. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever you can. If the manager is not available, remember to take pictures of the rental to record its condition.
- Did your family have a wonderful vacation? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for travelers to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or property management company was terrific, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was wrong and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
