Tips and Tricks to get the best Havelock vacation home experience:
Find your perfect rental:
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months along the coast of NC. To book the largest rental home within your budget, we recommend booking in Spring or Fall. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, better selection, warm weather and the absence of giant crowds at Havelock restaurants, tours, and activities. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Havelock vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
- Book your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules generally become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacation rentals during Winter holiday gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager whether your vacationing group qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
- Booking websites frequently offer renters an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally will cost between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for details.
- Look for your local Havelock visitors guide magazine upon arrival. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitor guides have discounts for local accommodations, tours and attractions.
Narrow your Search:
- Choose a group leader, select your vacation week, and select a budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. Mystic Pelican on The Canal. Dock. Beach. has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is almost always available on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, call the property owner before you reserve the vacation home. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches. You will need to establish which bed configuration is right for your vacation.
- If there's a particular Havelock beach you are enamored with, search for properties that are either near by, or those that cater especially to your requirements.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are available before booking
- Are you bringing the family pet? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Ask your property manager before booking, and study your rental agreement! Additional pet fees or costs could be applied to your contract.
More considerations:
- Take a copy of the host's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your . Put the host's information in your smartphone.
- Record any damages to the property at check in, and immediately contact the property manager. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be helpful if damages are assessed.
- Hosts are there to help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
- Be respectful of your neighbors. Often, adjacent homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can usually help. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
- Ensure you protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by locking the rental while you are away, just like you would at home.
- On check-out day, take a walk-through to confirm you haven't leave anything behind. Make sure to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the property a final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We suggest walking through with the host whenever you can. If the manager isn't available, ensure that you take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition.
- Did your family have a fantastic stay? Many rental websites make it easy for vacationers to provide comments. If your rental property and/or host was fantastic, they would love to hear it. If anything was out of order and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
