How to get the best Havelock rental home experience:
Money saving strategies:
- June, July, and August are high season in Atlantic Beach. Booking in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons is one of our best tips for saving money on your vacation home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of acceptable homes.
- Book your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules usually open a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families book their Summer vacations during holiday get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Some hosts offer promotional rates for veterans. Make sure to check with your host or property manager to see if special discounts are available for your group.
- Property managers usually offer renters an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed days as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for additional information.
- Look for your local Havelock visitors guide magazine when you check-in. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitors guide magazines contain offers and deals for local attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.
Make a plan and choose yourrental home:
- Start by selecting potential vacation weeks and a max budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration your family needs. Beach Cottages #1-Pet Friendly Efficiency in Atlantic Beach has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is regularly available online. If they are not listed, email or call the host before you book the vacation home. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches.
- Visiting for a specific event? Try a map search to find nearby rentals.
- Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Remember to confirm all required amenities are available and included before booking
- Some properties allow pets, and some don't. Allowable types of family pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask the property management company about pet restrictions before booking.
Advice for a great stay:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before leaving home. Add a note with the instructions to your smartphone, and take a printed backup.
- To make sure damages are not linked to your family's visit, make a record of any problem areas when you arrive. Call the rental manager immediately to relay any damages. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having the recorded issues and contact attempts will be very helpful.
- Hosts are there to help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
- Be respectful. Often times, nearby homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting noise limits and parking policies is the right thing to do.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can frequently help. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
- Lock your rental while you are out and about. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
- Upon check-out, take a walk-through to make sure you did not leave anything behind. Re-check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Walk through the property one final time and look for any damage. We advise inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager is not available, ensure that you take video and pictures of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your family have a great stay? Most rental home management companies make it easy for vacationers to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or host was wonderful, they would love to hear it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
