Getting the best vacation home experience:
When to go & When to book:
- Reserve your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually open 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacations during holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in the Havelock area. Book your rental in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons to get the benefit of warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowds.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host whether your vacationing group qualifies for a reduced rate.
- Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer their guests an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed vacation time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for details.
- Find a copy of your local visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great articles, travel guide magazines have deals for nearby accommodations, tours and attractions.
How to choose the best rental home:
- To start, have your group select vacation dates and a max budget.
- Decide how many beds and the configuration you need. Beachwalk 116, Oceanfront Condo in Pine Knoll Shores, NC! has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is regularly available on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, call the property manager before you book the vacation property. Remember that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull out couches in living rooms.
- Some rental properties allow pets, but some do not. Allowable types of pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added costs may apply. Ask the owner about your furry family members before booking.
- If there's a specific Havelock destination you simply love, search for homes that are either nearby, or those that cater especially to your requirements.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
Considerations for your stay:
- Put the manager's contact information in your smartphone.
- Property managers are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Lock your vacation home while you're away. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
- Document any damages to the rental at check in, and immediately e-mail them to the owner. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that can be beneficial if damages are attributed to your stay.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will enhance your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are often a great source for finding the best local scenic spots.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Local residents can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Re-check every room of the vacation property to make sure that you've packed everything at check-out. Make sure to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did you have a excellent time? Many rental websites make it easy for guests to provide reviews. If your rental and/or property management company was great, they would love to hear about it. If anything was defective and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
